Quite a group to feed and still take time to talk aobut plans for the year and then discuss some aspects of ethical decision making!!. Well done to all for making time to come and participate and good work discussing our scenario when more time would have been such a help.

Next meeting in the diary is not until next term, so I will try to get another one in this term and sort out how to set up the group to work with a large number. More info soon.
MBS - The Mary Burns Society - is one of several academic societies at King's. A good place to start might be, "who was Mary Burns?" Find out and bring your answer to the first meeting on 12 Mar at lunch time on the upstairs tech building balcony.
This is an intellectual society for Y7 boys in which a wide range of topics and issues will be considered. The aim is to open up the minds of members to the relationships between academic work and impacts on people so things that are learned are considered with a personal and societal focus. The social nature of the group and how scholars can work together is also of high importance.
Topics in recent years have included such things as:
Anger and aggression
Drugs in sport
Terrorism and world change
Language usage changes over time
Meetings will commence this term and will be held at lunch times – lunch will be provided. We will usually meet in the School Board Room above Futter Hall at lunch times and lunch will be provided. There will be two meetings a term and some reading and preparation will be needed in between. An excursion in Term 3 is usually taken to the Sydney Observatory.

THE RUNAWAY RAILWAY CARRIAGE
Here is the scenario.
A runaway railway carriage is hurtling down a track. In its path are five people who will definitely be killed unless you, a bystander, flip a switch which will divert it on to another track, where it will kill one person.
Should you flip the switch?
It's only an imagined scene, but it makes the difficulty and importance of some decisions clear.
